Feast of St. Anthony
Friday June 8 2007 @ 12:36 pm

Our church decided to hold a feast in honor of it’s namesake today. I met Debbie and Lillian at church at around 6:00pm and with tickets and green bean casserole in hand, we headed into the church center.

Inside we were greeted warmly and Lillian was given a pink lollipop. We picked out a table big enough for us and the Wilson family and checked out our surroundings. There was a dancefloor laid out and a DJ set up on the stage playing some good entrance music. I think I reconized Frankie Valli’s “Venus” when we came in.

30 minutes after arriving the food was set out. I went over to take a gander and it was a pretty grand buffet. Arroz con pollo, argentinian chicken, kielbasa and sauerkraut, meatballs, empanadas. It looked awesome. And after a prayer and some singing, I was off to fill up a couple of plates:

After dinner the dance floor was opened up and then there was a bit or karaoke with the song lyrics projected on a wall. Ellen and Godfrey did a pretty good rendition of Shaggy’s “Angel.”

Today I was sent on kind of a quick secret mission to the city. After I completed my task I decided that I’d better use the Crif Dogs gift card that Matt gave me for my birthday last summer - right before the Clerks Rolling Roadshow Screening (Thanks Matt!) The thing had a one year expiration date on it and with the kid coming, I didn’t know if I’d be back in NYC by then.

I found parking on 1st ave my the park and headed over to Crif.

Crif Dogs

Inside I ordered up a Spicy Redneck (Thumann’s dog wrapped in bacon and deep fried, with cole slaw, chili and jalapenos) some tater tots and a birch beer. The gift card kind of threw the guy behind the counter off a bit. He was working at Crif Dogs after a long absence and they changed the system on him. After a couple calls he got everything straightened out.

After lunch I decided to head to the Atlas Cafe on 2nd ave (over by Sea Thai) for some frozen tofu. I couldn’t remember the cross street so I couldn’t find it. After walking a few blocks I headed back to the car, punched up Sea Thai on the nav and found it. Frozen tofu was found and on the way back to the car I took a gander at the Bamf Automat on St. Marks. Pretty cool. I’m going to have to try the PB&J Croquette and the fries next time.

Sunday at the Sprayground

Although it was a bit overcast today, we decided to take Lillian to the Sprayground and have a picnic at Dorbrook Park. But first things first - we needed some supplies. After church we headed over to Whole Foods. I picked up some Mcevoy Ranch olive oil, Applegate Farm herbed turkey, a dense wheat roll, provolone, basil, fresh mozerella, balsamic vinegar and a tomato (for a caprese salad) and a few other things. Back at home I made some fresh pesto and used it as part of a pesto, turkey and provolone sandwich.

The Sprayground was awesome. I ran Lillian through a couple buckets and the water jail thingy and we spent some time at the water table.

After lunch at the Sprayground we headed to Toys R Us and picked up a new kiddie pool for the summer. This one had a ‘Finding Nemo’ theme on it and was small enough for the back porch. Next we hit Carvel for ice cream. Debbie is right - the new Fudgie the Whale mascot totally looks like a walking turd wearing a hat.
