Al Qaida took all the glamour out of traveling
Saturday July 8 2006 @ 6:07 am

Flying and going to the movies used to be glamourous activities back in the day. People would get dressed in their best and head to the big theater downtown or walk down the tarmac and up the portable stairway up to the awaiting planes. These days the going to the movies is like eating a meal and going to the airport involves dressing so you can take your shoes off quickly before getting your boarding pass checked for the 5th time and heading through the metal detectors. I never got to experience the glorious glamourous days of air travel but I’ve seen ads and it looks a lot more fun does it does today.

One day I will wear a hat and suit to the airport.

The alarm awoke me loudly at 3:22am and I hit the snooze button and put ym head back on the pillow. I had no intention of going back to sleep and I was too excited to do so anyway so at 3:25am I got out of bed and into the shower. While I was in the shower it started to hit me that I had only had a couple hours of sleep. I tried to get more but it felt like Christmas morning. I packed the last bit of luggage, had a quick breakfast, took out the trash so it wouldn’t smell when Debbie and I got back and then I headed out at about 4:15am.

Traffic was light on the parkway and the turnpike and I found my way out to lot P6 in econo parking - way out in no mans land. Just in case I forget the car is parked in P6 section 7 and I should get off at stop 45. I was thinking that no one would be out this early but the bus was as packed as I’d ever seen it. I guess everyone likes to take off as early as I do. Check in was a breeze because I had printed my boarding pass the night before and security and the metal detectors weren’t too bad. I know the drill know - stick all metal objects into the laptop bag so I don’t have to fumble with them and take out the laptop. Everyone in front of me took off their shoes so I did as well. The boarding pass was checked twice and then off to Gate C126.

I believe I remembered everything I was supposed to bring except for my SD card reader - so for now no photos.

Boarding took place at about 6:15am and we left the gate at 6:55pm.

Summary of what I did today:
